Presenting a class dance show at SFU SCA Studio T, featuring performances by dancers from Justine's class and meticulously crafted by CA 374 Lighting students. This collaborative endeavor involves designers and dancers working together to present concise 3-9 minute pieces during class sessions. Each dancer will deliver a solo performance, with Siqi Xu at the helm of the lighting design for distinguished performers Katie Schauerte and Claire Duhamel.
Katie Schauerte
"In her captivating 9-minute dance performance, the central theme revolves around the exploration of sexuality expressed in an emotional and strongly poignant manner. The dancer delicately and powerfully embodies a range of emotions, embracing the sensations of the body in a protective and inner manner. Contrary to conventional notions of sexiness, the performance eschews overt sensuality in favor of subtle repetition, creating a contemplative atmosphere. Set in a bedroom, bathed in warm light and devoid of music, the dancer navigates the intimate space with a profound sense of self, drawing inspiration from the closet space. The choreography seeks to immerse both the performer and the audience in a deeply personal and introspective journey, encapsulating the essence of the self within this evocative artistic space." —Siqi Xu

"The performance, set against a backdrop of stationary elements, unfolds over the course of 3 minutes. A strategically placed spotlight initiates the journey, capturing the essence of the dancer's emotions at the outset. As the narrative unfolds, the lighting dynamically evolves, transitioning into a deep red hue as the dancer gracefully maneuvers her body on the ground. The choreography incorporates climbing and deliberate, slow movements, inviting the audience to witness a captivating exploration of emotions and physicality within the intimate timeframe of this compelling dance piece." —Siqi Xu
